Lawyer Assan Martin has blasted the opposition figures that backed President Adama Barrow and his National People’s Party to win last December’s presidential election but later broke up with him, this he called them a laughing stock.
According to him, the country needs serious opposition to correct the poor leadership causing unending poverty in the country.
“Those are laughing stock because definitely, they are pupils whom President Barrow and his party didn’t show respect to. They even disregard them, how can you go with someone who had helped you to look for votes and you won and want them to congratulate you,” he said.
He added: “we need serious opposition. Anyone can form a political party, but leadership counts. The principle in politics, this is why people like us say we cannot leave our politics for jokers. This is why I say the poor people will suffer in this country because of poor leadership. This is why the country continues to struggle because of poor leadership in our institutions and our political parties.”
He claimed that “The opposition who wanted to form a coalition supported Barrow to win but Barrow didn’t recognise them and now you say you want to form a coalition. Gambians are not fools. I don’t think they are serious because if they were serious, they would have gone to that level of saying those kinds of statements.
Among these people and parties, he said include the Gambia Alliance for National Unity, Sheikh Tijan Hydara, Dr. Amadou Kanteh, Papa Faal, Momodou Bah 2, and Malick Camara, leader of Gambia Action Party Musa Yali Batchilly, Baboucarr Jeng, a former KM mayoral aspirant among other.
