Police Arrest Two Murder Suspects in West Coast Region

West Coast Region Police command has arrested and detained Edward Nzally, a suspect allegedly accused of killing one Mr. Yasin Nyally, and Saajuma Keita, a 30-year-old native of Tanji, also a suspect allegedly accused of stabbing his father to death.

According to a report monitored on Poliso, in Bafuloto early last week  Edward Nzally (Accused) had an argument with his brother, Mr. Yasin Nyally (victim), and stabbed him to death while neighbors escorted the victim to the police station, and  Yasin was swiftly escorted to Brikama Health Center where he was medically confirmed dead.

According to the Police report, the accused went into hiding and after a diligent search, they were able to locate and arrest him.

Meanwhile, Poliso Magazine confirmed that the accused confessed to the act and has been slammed with a single count offence of murder and will be arraigned in court soon.

“Members of the public are urged to settle family matters or domestic issues in a peaceful manner and not resort to violence as a means of settling individual differences,” the police said.

In the same development, Poliso Magazine also reports that  Saajuma Keita, a 30-year-old native of Tanji who allegedly stabbed his own father to death and absconded to Senegal has been arrested and is currently held in the custody of the Gambia Police Force.

“The suspect, who managed to evade police arrest and ran to Senegal was arrested with the help and cooperation of Senegalese security services. It could be recalled that Tujereng police mounted an investigation after registering the alleged murder reported by family members of the deceased from Tanji. The deceased, 85 years old, Fally Keita of Tanji was allegedly stabbed to death by his son Saajuma Keita,” the Police said.

According to the Police, upon committing the crime, the accused absconded to Senegal, where he was in hiding, revealing that following a meticulous probe into the matter by GPF detectives, his whereabouts were traced in a particular settlement in Dakar, Senegal.

“Through the existing bi-lateral security cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal, intelligence was shared for assistance that led to the subsequent arrest of the fugitive.

He has been cautioned and charged with murder, now awaiting arraignment before the court,” the police said.

The Police added: “The Inspector General of Police wishes to assure the general public that the peace and security of the Gambia is a collective responsibility, and the police will continue to deliver the needed services.

Furthermore, habitual criminals are informed that there is no fertile ground for hiding within the two sister countries due to the well-established security cooperation.”
