FIFA confirms Papa Gassama’s appointment to officiate at 2022 FIFA World Cup

Gambian and Africa’s top referee Bakary Papa Gassama is selected amongst the 36 list of referees appointed by the World’s football governing body, FIFA for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The 43-year-old referee, Gassama who became the only referee selected in The Gambia was confirmed by FIFA yesterday, on Thursday.

The three times Africa’s best referee is joined by seven other referees in the African continent.

Other African officials listed are Maguette N’diaye (Senegal), Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria), Balmak Tessema (Ethiopia), Redouane Jiyed (Morocco), Janny Sikazwe (Zambia), Victor Gomez (South Africa), and Jean Jacques Ndala (DR Congo).

Rwanda’s Salima Makansanga, Djibril Camara (Senegal), Mahmoud Abouelregal (Egypt) and Elvis Noupue (Cameroon) complete the list of African officials.

The 2022 World Cup will start from 21 November to 18 December 2022.
