President Adama Barrow has in strong words accused   leading Gambian Human Rights Activist Madi Jobarteh of trying everything possible to incite violence in the country, observing that all Gambian journalists have given the activist the platform to criticize his government saying that “cannot be on longer tolerated.”

The Gambian leader made the accusation in a meeting with Banjul Muslims Elders and Imams who were at State House on Monday greets him on the occasion of the celebration of the Eidul Fitr locally called Koriteh.

“There are others who are doing everything possible to disturb the government and bring violence (Fitna) into the country and one among them is Madi Jobarteh. He belongs to the group of people who want to set fire on the country, he is someone who wants to bring violence into the country and everyone should be wary of his activities,” President Barrow told Imams and Banjul Elders

He added: “I never stand on any platform to discuss his (Madi Jobarteh) issue, he said he belongs to the civil society, a civil society that you know its mission is only to set fire to the country. Any platform he uses is only to set the country on fire and all the journalists are giving him the platform and it should be noted that anyone supporting him is not helping the country.”

President Barrow pointed out  that his government will thoroughly look into the issue of the leading Gambian activist, arguing that the government cannot continue to condone criticism from people who want to set the country on fire.

“We (government) have accepted a lot of things from people who know that what they are doing is wrong and not   in agreement with the rule of law. Truly, if the President should abide by the law, others too should abide by the law, that is why they are saying human rights which is not only about government but equally individuals too, they are abusing people that is not human rights” President Barrow argued. He added: “We will not tolerate these anymore.”
