5 NAMs from UDP to NPP lost seats in National Assembly election

  Five National Assembly members that were elected under the United Democratic Party (UDP) tickets in 2017 and expelled in 2019 from the party but later joined National People’s Party (NPP) have failed to return to the parliament house following their defeat at the just concluded National Assembly election held on Saturday.

These four parliamentarians included Hon. Fatoumatta Jawara – Tallinding, Hon. Saikouba Jarju, – Busumbala, Hon. Saikou Marong – Latri-Kunda, Hon. Baba Galleh Jallow – Sanimentereng, and Hon. Alhagie Jawara Lower Baddibu and they were all expelled from the UDP and joined NPP.

In the same development, three other parliamentarians who were also expelled by the UDP and later joined the NPP were re-elected these included Hon. Billy Tunkara of Kantora, Hon. Omar Darboe, Upper Nuimi and Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay of Old Yundum all re-elected under the NPP tickets.

The shocking defeat of Hon. Fatoumatta Jawara, Hon. Saikouba Jarju, Hon. Saikou Marong and Hon. Alhagie Jawara has triggered mixed reactions among NPP militants and supporters who are yet to fathom how it happened.
