Coalition 2016: Dr. Ceesay Invites Halifa Sallah to a Debate

Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Political Science Lecturer and Presidential candidate for the Citizens Alliance (CA) party has sent and invitation to Hon. Halifa Sallah to debate on the failure of coalition 2016.

This development comes following CA’s Party Leader’s argument that all Stakeholders of the Coalition 2016, are to be blamed for its failures.

“There is no scapegoat all the Coalition leaders had betrayed the trust of the Gambian people. It is all of them because none of them have fulfilled their promise to the Gambian people and no one is better than the other,” said Dr. Ismaila Ceesay of Citizens Alliance Party.

“It is all these parties that brings disagreement and confusion in the country, insulting and brandishing each other. We don’t do that at Citizens Alliance because we have the skills, we have the mindset to do the right things.”

According to him, the elders have played their part and it is now time for them to resort to offering prayers to the young ones, adding that all those countries including Rwanda, Botswana, Singapore and Switzerland have been developed by the youths.

However, Kemeseng Sanneh a staunch supporter of the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), who is currently under police investigation for peddling false news relative to his kidnapping has disagrees with Dr. Ismaila Ceesay’s opinion, arguing that such blames cannot be caste on individual political parties but on President Adama Barrow who renegade the trust and confidence of the Gambian people.

“To me, Dr Ceesay is either dishonest or he’s misleading the population of his political ambition. Their objective is to paint all those who form Coalition 2016 with the same brush so that people will not be able to determine the words and practices of each party but would stigmatize all.

Strangely, institutional memory is being lost as to what happened that gave rise to Coalition 2016 and what the achievement was.

What Dr Ceesay fail to understand is that once a person is elected one becomes the president of a republic. That person has no constitutional or legal obligation to be dictated by anyone. So it was Barrow who should have a moral obligation to back words and promises with deeds. If he fails to do that, who then should be accountable for that failure? Is it reasonable to say that Coalition partners?”, said Kemeseng Sanneh aka Kexx Sanneh.

He said Dr. Ceesay has earlier invited him to a debate but has rescinded the decision and now inviting PDOIS Party Leader Halifa Sallah to a debate.

“Dr. Ceesay just call in again to said he need Halifa to debate with on the subject and not me. I reply but is me who made the counter-argument and not Halifa Sallah but he insteaded is either Halifa or no debate,” Kexx Sanneh disclosed on his Facebook page Sunday 1st August, 2021. He added: “I try to convince him that he’ll have Halifa on a debate since all of them are Presidential candidates of their respective parties but he still maintains his position and I promised him that I communicate the message.”

However, Dr. Ceesay replied as thus: “I am reiterating this: The entire coalition failed us by either deviating from the national agenda to promote partisan agenda and/or by failing to take responsibility. They solely contributed to our current predicament so they cannot be the solution,” CA Leader disclosed.

He added: “If any coalition leader disagrees, I am ready to be challenged in a public debate by that leader and the LEADER ALONE. #Fact #Sincerity.”
