TURKISH DEPUTY AMBASSADOR PRESENTS EQUIPMENT TO GAMBIA NATIONAL ARMY

Turkish deputy ambassador to The Gambia yesterday presented military communication equipment and other security gazettes to The Gambia national army. The ceremony which was held at the defence headquarters in Banjul was graced by the army chief of staff, the deputy and other senior personnel of the army.

The donated items include communication gazettes, gas filters and riot shields which are the recent items presented by the Turkish army through head of their diplomatic mission in the country.

The Gambia and Turkey have a long-standing bilateral cooperation bordering on all sectors of development.

At a handing over ceremony at the defence headquarters in Banjul, Turkish deputy ambassador, Dilara Samanli commended The Gambia national army for the active role it has played and continue to play in the international peace building in other part of the continent. Ambassador Samanli expressed her country’s commitment and readiness to build the capacity of the Gambian army.

For his part, the chief of defence staff Yakuba Drammeh described the donation as “another significance milestone” for the Gambia national army while highlighting the brief history of the relationship between the two institutions. These items according to the Gambia’s army chief will help the Republican National Guard considering their constitutional mandate, noting that the cooperation between the two institutions is mutual which will continue to exist.
