Well-known Gambian businessman Sillaba Samateh has called on electorates to come out on April 9 and vote for President Adama Barrow National People’s Party (NPP) candidates.

In an exclusive at his home in Brusubi, he said that voting for NPP candidates will usher in unprecedented development for the country and allowed the completion of numerous projects that are currently ongoing.

He urged Gambian Oppositions to stop their cheap propaganda and tell the Gambian people the truth on prices of basic commodities.

He further emphasized that voting for the candidates of President Adama Barrow will allow the smooth completion of the various projects currently underway in various regions of the country.

“If Gambians allowed oppositions to control the parliament most of the developments underway will not be completed.

I want to call on all Gambian electorates to massively vote for parliamentary candidates of President Adama Barrow,” he noted.

Samateh described President Barrow as epitome of peace, stability and development and these virtues of him should be replicated by Gambians in desire to develop the country.

He also said voting for NPP candidates will accelerate a speed that is not expected from the President for the development of the country.

“The renowned businessman also called on the electorates to give deaf ears to the oppositions whose only agenda is high commodity prices, arguing that the high prices of commodities are a global phenomenon that is orchestrated by the Coronavirus Pandemic and swelling fuel pricing across the world.

We are all aware of the negative impact Covid-19, and the ongoing crisis between Ukraine and Russia, these have had negative bearings on prices of goods and services across the globe. The fact that many businessmen in the country ordered their goods outside depicts that they have no control over the prices of commodities,” Samateh pointed out.

He added: “I am a businessman, I transverse the whole sub region and beyond but as far as commodity prices are concerned, prices are far better in Gambia than most of the neighbouring countries.

A lot of our neighbours are coming here to buy rice, flour, oil, sugar, attaya among others because they are cheaper in the Gambia than in their own countries.”

He said the government of President Adama Barrow cannot be squarely blamed for the price hike and increments, stressing that globally prices of goods and services have been rising in prices.

According to him, peace, stability and development are the hallmarks of President Adama Barrow and once his candidates are elected it will become very easy for him to develop, arguing that it will be very difficult for oppositions to work hand in hand with the President without undermining his efforts.

Samateh   called on his businessmen to be considerate of the plight of the Gambian people when fixing their prices, adding that the government has given businessmen the space to operate   but not to harm the consumers.
