Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the leader of the United Democratic Party has insisted that his party was denied by the Supreme Court to be heard over its election petition.

Speaking at a news conference at UDP’s bureau in Pipeline, Lawyer Darboe said they have twenty clear evidences of corrupted committed by President Adama Barrow’s party during the presidential campaign.

Lawyer Darboe’s comment came after his party election petition was struck out by the nation’s Supreme Court twice.

“That application was rejected by the court and that was the only court that we could go. And United Democratic Party strongly feels that our rights to have access to justice that we were denied the opportunity to present a case,” he told reporters.

“Our complain was never heard and again so those people who are saying United Democratic Party’s petition was dismissed they are wrong because it was never dismissed. In fact, it was struck out, so that misstatement coming from the media is inaccurate. Our case was never heard whether we were right or wrong. So, we were denied an opportunity to present a case,” he added.

According to him, if they were given the opportunity that The Gambian people would have known the strength of their complaints they presented in the court, adding there have been several corrupt practices prohibited by section 116 of the Election Act.

Meanwhile, he added that his party has twenty evidences of corrupt practices against President Barrow and his National People’s Party committed during the presidential campaign, saying anything that influences the electorates is corrupt practice.

He said: “The slightest evidence just one single of corrupt practice invalidates an election and we are presenting to you, members of the press not less than twenty incidents of corrupt practices committed by Adama Barrow or by his agents with his knowledge. And all these corrupt practices happened during the campaign and we have not mentioned anything what have happen in July.”
