Schools at Kampant, Kappa, Ballen, and Gikess all villages at The Gambia border have been shut down over the last week clash between Senegalese soldiers under the Ecowas mission and MFDC rebels, which has left two soldiers’ died and nine others missing.

The schools remain closed for the fear of reoccurring situation and as a result of some of residents who have fled their homes with their school going children to seek refuge in villages in Foni and Kombo.

Speaking to The Voice, Lamin Fatajo, Regional Education Director in West Coast Region, said his office recommended a team currently identifying students from the school that are affected by the fight which took place in Foni last week and disrupted students’ education within this period in the area.

“The team is locating the students in the area to distribute them temporally among other schools for the meantime before everything goes back to normal in the area. The team has already left for Foni to locate all the students affected and look at the nearest schools here for them to continue with their education” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, he said his office is not aware of any school children moving from the areas in Foni that were affected by the fight as earlier reports indicated that some refugee families in Foni Kansala have sent their children to the Kombo to protect them from any danger within the area as their schools closed.
