Papa Tunkara resigns from GDC to embrace NPP

Papa Tunkara has ditched opposition Gambia Democratic Congress for the ruling National People’s Party, a move he claimed was influenced by the people of Farafenni.

Mr Tunkara was the deputy youth president of the Gambia Democratic Congress. He said he has been advised to join President Barrow’s party in order party to enhance development within Farafenni and the surrounding for the interests of the community.

According to his resignation letter, the move has been triggered by his family members and elders of Farafenni who deemed it necessary that he can only bring developments to the town and its surrounding communities by joining the ruling party.

“I Papa Tunkara councillor for Farafenni ward in Upper Baddibu District in the North Bank Region who doubles as deputy youth president hereby tendering my resignation from GDC with immediate effect,” he said in the letter.

“This move is because my family members together with Imam’s and elders of Farafenni decided that I have to join the ruling party to enhance development within Farafenni and the surrounding for the interests of the community. I am apologising for any inconvenience caused,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gambia Democratic Congress is yet to respond to his resignation letter
