Unity The Way To Go

At long last the December 4, 2021 has passed off and of course without ado.

This was the first election after seven (7) political parties and independent candidates’ entries to agreement to end 22 years ex-President Yahya Jammeh reign to power on December 2, 2016.

The December 4 2021 should be of great concern to the nation because as basis of our democracies, it also births our political leaders for the first time more candidates applied to contest for the presidency.

The riveting of the attention of the nation on December 4 election contested by six candidates was therefore, for justifiable reasons.

It was an election which saw the leadership and other stakeholders revamping the political grouping through admonitions and adjustments to existing party standards or constitution where necessary towards the future.

With the President serving his constitutionally permitted second-term in office, the importance of the election was exigent to the party’s future fortunes.

Despite this, the ruling party first term in office and the second term for the President and under the 1997 constitution there is no presidential term-limit. With the level of awareness, the situation demands maturity from opposition and their rank-and-file membership.

The demand for unity from the assortment of leaders cannot be underestimated because as an attribute it is sine qua non for breaking the code of conduct, which all party supporters agreed.

A half-hearted approach towards this goal would be an exercise in futility which is why President Adama Barrow Friday called on all political leaders and supporters to unite in spite of their differences, saying they must be bound by their common desire for national development, peace and prosperity.

The unity of the country on the President elect-Adama Barrow will go a long way in bringing out the best of the grouping so that the country will be the winner in the end. The sustenance of democracy requires that those with the appropriate pedigree are allowed access to the throttle of governance.

Those with time-tested records bereft of blemishes of integrity must be allowed to be in power.
