Accused pleads guilty to common assault charge

A sober accused, Ya Sanu Saine has pleaded guilty of charges pressed against her when she appeared before Magistrate Colley of Kanifing Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

In narration, the Prosecutor explained to the court that on the 29th December 2021 in Bakau the complainant and accused were in the Kadi court to discuss about their children welfare.

So, the Kadi ordered them to go to social welfare in Bakau for them to settle the matter there, adding that the complainant and the accused were called by the staff. While discussing on their issue the accused slapped the complainant at his face and the accused was taken to Bakau Police Station where her statement was taken.

He said at the police station the accused accepted the charge. However, the accused pleaded to the court for mercy and that what she did was not intentional. She said the complainant called him bitch that’s why she slapped him.

The Magistrate warned the accused not to repeat the same mistake again. He said if the husband was responsible, he will not take his wife to court neither calling her bitch.

According to her particulars of offense, Ya Sanu Saine did on the 29th December 2021 in Bakau unlawfully assaulted one Alagie Lamin Darboe by hitting him on his face with her hand.
