Queen Park Rangers (QPR) on Saturday were crowned champions of the Tujereng knockout final after defeating Sanchaba United 5-4 on post-match penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation time.

The game which was graced by high profile dignitaries including Alieu Sowe, Standard Bearer of the Gambia Action Party (GPA) together with other football loving fans in the community was held at the Tujereng Football Field.

It was an entertaining final as both sides started the game pretty well in the first half of the game.

QPR enjoyed much possession in the first period but could not find the back of their opponent’s net, while Sanchaba United also mounted some pressure on QPR in the second half of the game but neither side were able to convert any of the chances.

As winners QPR were awarded a giant trophy and cash prize of D7000, while runner-ups Sanchaba United pocketed D6000.

Speaking in an interview after the whistle, Musa Jatta, head coach of QPR, expressed delight for his boys performance against Sanchaba United, adding that this is just a test for them as they are preparing for the league final against Manchester United on 15th January 2022

For his part Abdoulie Manneh, head coach of Sanchaba United, commended his boys for their efforts, saying they were just unfortunate to win.

Meanwhile, the Tujereng Sports Committee scheduled on 15 January 2022 for the league final between QPR and Manchester United.

The Queen Park Rangers side will be hoping to set a record in Tujereng by winning the double after already triumphing in the knockout cup.
