Youth-led associations of Patriotic Youth Association and the Beautiful Minds of Africa have visited the Police Headquarters in Banjul to dialogue with the police hierarchy.
The sister association were received by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mr. Momodou Sowe and Assistant Inspector General of Admin (AIG) Mr. Ebrima Bah at the police headquarter.
DIG Momodou Sowe said violence and conflict brings nothing but destructions, hunger and displacement.
“There are two (2) things that didn’t have a price which are peace and love we should love each other so that we can have peaceful coexistence in our society and the country at large,” he said while applauded the important step taken by the peace advocators.
He noted that, the security forces are here for everyone without any form of discrimination.
“We will protect the lives and properties of every Gambians irrespective of your color, tribe political or religious affiliation,” he added.
According to him, in The Gambia we are all inter-related so we should treat each other as brothers and sisters to live in conducive environment. He disclosed that they engaged the party militants so that they can have a peaceful dialogue for them to disperse which took for almost four (4) hours with no availed.
More so, he said they deal with the situation with their brains and not with their physical body or hearts. According to him whenever you deal with situation with heart it becomes your instincts which are bad.
Musa Saidy who doubles as the president of (PYAG) also a member of Peace Ambassadors emphasized the need for the maintenance of peace and stability in the country; according to him “peace is priceless and also very expensive”.
He stressed that there is urgent need to address the current situation of the country`s future for a peace coexistence for the future generation. He also deluded on the importance of peace and security in the country.
Abdoulie Darboe, from the Beautiful Minds Africa on his part talked about the tribal sentiment and hate speeches that went viral on the social media. Like others, he said tribalism has no place in the country, it can bring violence and conflict while he advised youths to distance themselves from such menace and give chance for peace
Madam Haddy Ndow of Beautiful Minds of Africa said youths are always at the forefront when violence erupted and they become the first victims, therefore youth should be law abiding and never allow being used by the politicians for their selfish interests.
