Basirou Gassama, spokesman for President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party Bakau branch, has urged Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and Honorable Mamma Kandeh to concede defeat saying the just concluded presidential election was “free and fair.”

“We should teach other African countries what is real democracy. We should not allow politics to divide us and let all the candidates accept defeat and unite our people for the interest of the nation. I`m happy with the president for his statement with the journalists that he is a unifier,” he told The Voice exclusively.

“President Barrow’s victory was not a surprise to him because of the work that he has done for the country and that is why the Gambian people decided to vote for him, no one is a loser because Barrow is now the president of all Gambians. You vote for him or not we need peace in this country, with irrespective of the party your support we need to be calm, we are not enemies is just because we have divergent opinions and God has decided Barrow as the elected president,” he added.

He once again called on Darboe and Kandeh to challenge the election results in court if they are not satisfied while urged them to be tolerant.

Mr Gassama commended the security for their excellent discharged of their duties during the election period as one cannot compare their way of duties during this election and the time of the ex-president Jammeh.

He wants them to keep the loyalty, each day and every time they are on duty.

He added to his talk that the country still need the presence of the West African forces currently present in The Gambia till the Security Reform is done.
