The disturbed lawmaker for Serrekunda West, Honorable Madi Cessay, has called the Independent Electoral Commission to explain reason for the delay in the election results, which saw President Adama Barrow won a landslide victory.

“We have our concerns on the delay of the results announcement because when the first three results were out it took eight to nine hours before IEC announce them but investigations are on and that will tell the next line of action. IEC should come out and explain the reason for the delay of the election results as they wouldn’t say is constituencies are big in counting the votes. There are small constituencies so that one is out of the question, we really need explanation this should not happen the results should flow as they were coming,” he told The Voice exclusively.

He lamented that “the delay is deliberate or IEC was cooking something that is not clear to me either and in regard of President Barrow saying he will ban the party (UDP) is a mere talk because he doesn’t have any power to ban any party like UDP.

Honorable Ceesay disclosed that the country is govern by law and is within the laws of The Gambia for president to have such an executive power to ban any party. If what is announce is accurate or nothing cook then it is the decisions of Gambian people as everyone has his or her choice of political party.

“However, my party jointly with Gambia for All (GFA), GDC, Independent candidate Essa Faal have released a statement in rejecting the results partners will investigate the delay of the results until those investigations are out then we will see what next. I call on every Gambian especially our party supporters to maintain peace and love, we are nation known with peace irrespective of our political differences,” he added.
