Gambian electorates in Kanifing Municipal Council have reacted to the results of the just concluded December 4 Presidential election with divided opinions as the incumbent president His Excellency Adama Barrow was declared winner of the election with landslide victory.

Opposition leaders of United Democratic Party Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and Gambia Democratic Party Mamma Kandeh and the independent candidate Mr Essa Faal on Sunday jointly rejected the result.

However, some reactions gathered started with the market vendors in Serrekunda market where Abdou Suso said: “the election is free and fair because it’s a spot counting and no one can steal a vote and all party agents were at the voting centre and also at the IEC where the announcement was done. Nothing can be reduced and nothing can be added to someone else vote.”

“I Know no one is above the law and those three opposition parties who rejected the election results it’s their rights to do so and they should bring evidence that shows that the election results were not fair. Let’s everyone maintain the peace and stability that Gambia has and let no one commit violence,” he urged.

On his own, Mr Darboe said he started to vote since the first Republic and such thing like delaying the result of election never happen before as he’s claiming that the final result took so long to announce by the IEC.

He said the opposition parties that rejected the election it’s their right to do so and if they want, they can sue the IEC, saying “I will advise everyone to stay away from violence and let stop the insult and stop tribalism.”

Binta Dibba added to the voices and affirmed that the election was free and fair because it was a spot counting result “so I don’t think there can be any malpractice during the counting.”

“Those opposition parties who rejected the election results have the right to do so and can sue IEC but I will advise everyone to maintain peace and stability in the country, especially the opposition leaders.
