Supermarket Shelves Emptied over election anxiety

Some hundreds of shoppers last Friday descended on supermarkets across Greater Banjul Areas for last day shopping over election anxiety just to stock their stores at home.

The rushing increased volume of sales of some of the supermarket owners who were happy to attend to their customers who were buying food items and other essential commodities they can lay their hands on in spite of the state of their tiredness.

Sainey Drammeh, a supermarket owner in Serrekunda, was in ecstatic mood as he recounted the surge he experienced on Friday. “It is a good market day for us. How I wish every business day would be like today,” he said with a smiling.

Meanwhile, Isatou Bah, a shopper said she came to the supermarket because no one knows what will happen after the election. She said the tension towards the election was too much and she was scared.

Like others, she said “I have kids to feed and it is important to have food at home, but we are also praying that the election is conducted quietly and the outcome of the result accepted with good faith by everyone.”
