Top human rights lawyer and a member of Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has disclosed that his party is the only party that wants to reconcile and unite Gambians.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper exclusively, Lawyer Assan Martins said: “during our campaign period our key message was peace, we want a peaceful government where we will recognize each other’s rights and reconcile Gambians.”

“Yahya Jammeh (Former president) is one person but the party (APRC) is a structure, so we are aligning ourselves with a structure that has good decent Gambians, we are Gambians going after Gambians, Jammeh administration should be detached from the party structure (APRC). GDC’s believe is working in alliance with good Gambians who don’t believe going to work with President Barrow and therefore we are working with decent Gambians who happens to be in APRC,” he noted.

He quickly disclosed that GDC is the only part that includes climate change into their manifesto, “Climate change is an issue in The Gambia that needs to be tackle, we need a clean environment, pollution and the traffic is hell. We will come up with policies that will help address all these issues.”

“At GDC we want to win back our country and allow Gambians to take ownership, we don’t want to be exploited by foreign bodies for any matter if elected we will promote youth empowerment, strengthen the health system and revive agriculture,” he said.

However, he said the campaign went well that they at least covered 98% of all their campaign activities, adding “we put out our message to Gambian people and show them that GDC is the solution under the leadership of honourable Mama Kandeh. “

Lawyer Martins said he believe the independent electoral commission (IEC) will give Gambians a fair election and urged IEC not to be influenced by anybody that all parties are players and should be treated equally.

“We will take everything in good faith GDC wants to see is a free, fair and transparent election. Believe that GDC stands to win and our combination with other parties shows that the party will win the election,” he boosted.
