The Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure (MOICI) has completed a ten days training Program on Cybersecurity, Cybercrime and Digital Forensics for Law Enforcement (LEAs) and Criminal Justice (CJS) Bodies.
MDI’s Head of Department for Business Administration, Mr. Sillah Conateh and Mr. Girbril Lowe, Commissioner for Information Technology of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) were Guests Speakers of the event. Mr. Conateh expressed his thanks and appreciation to MOICI for entrusting MDI with this assignment. While showing gratitude, he highlighted the importance of the initiative in enabling Law Enforcement bodies to effectively conduct their work.
Mr. Gibril Lowe from the GPF also expressed his appreciation of the Program and showed delight in witnessing the representation of various security sectors, partaking in the training. He reiterated the importance of the Training for conducting proper digital investigations by the security sectors.
The Project Coordinator, Mr. Sanusi Drammeh of MOICI spoke on behalf of the Director of ICT. He acknowledged the hard work and commitment demonstrated and endured by the Trainees during the 10 days. While encouraging them to utilize skills and knowledge acquired from the training; he emphasized the importance of their role in transferring the skills to other personnel in their respective institutions.
The 10-day training is among this year’s MOICI’s scheduled Cybersecurity programs and it is expected to build the capacity of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice bodies to effectively coordinate and fight Cybercrime, Secure Critical National Infrastructure as well as protect and make The Gambia’s Cyberspace resilient. These expectations, once fulfilled, will enable businesses and individuals to thrive when using electronic or digital technologies to conduct transactions online. It is also meant to protect the acceleration of socio-economic development for The Gambia while achieving Critical Enabler 5 of the National Development Plan 2018-2021: “Making the Gambia a Digital Nation and a Modern Information Society.”
