Father seeks medical assistance for 12-year son

Saifulie Jallow, a 12-year-old boy who has diagnosed with heart disease is currently in need of medical assistance for overseas treatment to save his life and regains good health.

Appealing on behalf of his son, Yerro Jallow, his father, who lives in Busumbala village called on government, NGOs, philanthropists among other individuals for overseas medical assistance for his 12-year-old son, Saifulie Jallow.

Mr Jallow who walked into The Voice newspaper helplessly, explained that “Saifulie has been diagnosed with a heart disease at MRC since 2014 where we normally take him to for monthly check-ups and his medications to calm his situation. But he is now referred for an overseas medical treatment.”

He noted that the son has been struggling with this condition since and it made got worried the more he couldn’t get help for his son.

Mr Jallow added: “ever since his was diagnosed with a heart disease since 2014 up to date I have reached out to many institutions for help but all to no avail.”

According to the medical report obtained from Medical Research Council Unit in Bakau, the patient was presented to the MRC in October 2014 complaining of shortness of breath and clubbing.  It added ECHO was arranged and he was found to have Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary gradient of 85mmHg.

He was followed up in the clinic since and his O2 saturations are typically 70%.

“Recently he presented with a fever and a convulsion, and was admitted to the ward, during which the visiting cardiologist from chain of Hope reviewed him and had no further seizures,” the report indicated.

The medical report further started that an ECHO done by Dr. Rowlinson confirmed the Tetralogy of Fallot which showed that there was accessory tricuspid tissue billowing into the subaortic area, he was discharged and has no further problems. “He remains stable on ferrous sulphate 200mg OD and Propranolol 20mg TDS.”

In the report, it was recommended that “the child currently needs cardiac surgery to repair his heart defect which is not performed in the Gambia. The advice is for the patient to seek paediatric surgical management overseas.”

Meanwhile, his father said the child is in primary five, facing difficulties to concentrate in class or even play with his peers. That he normally stays home as he becomes weak so easily.
