Sheriff Kijera: APRC/NPP Alliance is Shocking, Disappointing and Despicable

Sheriff Kijera, Chairman of The Gambia Center for Victims of Human Rights has described the political alliance between the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) and National People’s Party (NPP) as shocking, disappointing and despicable.

Kijera was reacting to this development in an exclusive interview with The Voice Newspaper, where he alleged that President Adama Barrow is a traitor, a disappointment and an ungrateful personality to Gambians who have elected him to office in December 2016.

“Well with the news coming in from the APRC about their alliance with the NPP is quite shocking, very disappointing and very despicable for that matter,” Victims Center Chairman reacted.

He went on that “Adama Barrow is a traitor, a disappointment to Gambians and very ungrateful to the Gambians who have elected him into office. I think it is quite disappointing to the victims community for Adama Barrow to go into an alliance with the party that has been victimizing Gambians for 22 years, with the party that has been killing innocent Gambians, with the party that has been raping our sisters, with the party that has looted state resources to the detriment of the entire Gambian population.”

According to him, APRC is a party that has put this country in such a dire situation as a nation with all this hardship; it is quite deplorable and disappointing to form an alliance with such a political party.

Chairnan Kijera adduced that the so called APRC/NPP alliance is not a surprise to victims of Yahya Jammeh who have foreseen such development coming. Noting that the comportment of Adama Barrow and what APRC has been portraying for all these years clearly shows they are up to something dangerous for the country.

According to him, the alliance between the APRC/NPP is a call for a unity among every Gambian to come together to remove Barrow from power through the ballot box come December 4, justifying that Adama Barrow is clearly a candidate of Yahya Jammeh and should not be given the chance to install impunity back in the country.

“By all indication Adama Barrow has declared himself the candidate of Yahya Jammeh, he is going to create the platform for impunity.

He is going to be elected on the platform of impunity which all Gambians have to work together to deny him with such a platform and the chance to be elected for the second time,” Kijera submitted.

He continued that “electing Adama Barrow for the second time is going to be quite detrimental to the course of our economic development as a viable nation and to the course of our democracy. I think Adama Barrow is not a solution to our problems and Gambians should vote him out.”

The Victims Center Chairman didn’t stop as he called on all supporters of NPP who has voted against Yahya Jammeh and the APRC and all those who have voted against corruption, tyranny, callousness, self-perpetuating rule in December, 2016, to come together and declare their opposition to Adama Barrow, he is a traitor, a very selfish personality and a betrayal to the trust and confidence Gambian has in him.

“We are calling on those entire genuine NPP supporters to show their backs to Adama Barrow and all those people who has their consents to think twice about voting for Adama Barrow. I believe if Barrow is voted into office is going to further sink this country into anarchy, into chaos and other tyrannical rule that we fought for 22 years with the APRC government.”

He therefore extended his call to all opposition parties in the country to come together and vote out Adama Barrow from power, arguing that the coming together of all opposition parties is the only solution to the crisis that grips the country.

He added that the Victims Center will continue to work towards promoting the ‘Never Again’ campaign with all other civil society organisations and all the stakeholders to give it a momentum across the country. Also, the center will continue to remind Gambians about the dark days of Yahya Jammeh’s regime and where President Adama Barrow is leading the nation to.
