APRC, NPP form alliance

Former ruling party, Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) has agreed to form alliance with President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) for the upcoming December 4 presidential election.

Speaking at a news conference held at Penchami Hall on Saturday, Honorable Fabakary Tombong Jatta said: “We have already concluded alliance talks with one political party that’s the NPP.”

“The coalition is not about NPP or APRC but The Gambia. That was why the committee was able to reach an agreement. On Thursday we confirmed our alliance with the national People’s Party but only two members did not agree,” he added.

The announcement comes as APRC is divided over forming alliance with the National People’s Party, as splinter group of the party believes this will kill APRC.

He however added: “Power belongs to people that is why we engaged them through a nationwide tour. After the review with the verse majority of our members, we decided to notify our partner that we agreed as a party and we should now do a signing ceremony.”

Adding that, they acted in the supreme interest of the Gambian people.

The former MP disclosed that there were series of discussions as to which party to form alliance with others say the United Democratic Party, amongst others but they finally agreed to sign memorandum of understanding with the National People’s Party to form a coalition in the coming 4th December presidential election.

According to him all APRC party sympathizers and NPP will vote for President Adama Barrow.

Meanwhile he said the lead counsel of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) Essa Mbaye Faal used the commission to build his political immune and that even if Essa Faal is interested in politics, he should wait till the reports are send.

He however stated few things in the Memorandum of Understanding among which is the coming of the former president Yahya Jammeh to live peacefully in The Gambia and that they will be fully part of the government form by their coalition and that they will hold ministerial positions and participate effectively in the government.
