Dr Ceesay dismisses ‘Sukuta tile’ remark

The leader of Citizens’ Alliance has dismissed claim of him promising to tile Sukuta as he described the claim as false.

Dr Ceesay has been widely bashed on social media for the circulating video by critics who used the video to caricature him and his party for such comment.

But he dismissed that: “A short video, where I purportedly made a promise to tile Sukuta is making rounds. This is false. The video is trimmed from a long speech in the Mandinka language. Those who understand the language know that I never made that promise.

“In fact, no sane person will do that. Rather my exact words were: ‘politics is not about insults or tribalism or other malice. Rather it’s about providing clean water, constant electricity, good roads, good hospitals and schools and even tiling sukuta. ‘Tile’ in this instance might seem inappropriate, but it was in the speech as a figurative expression to describe beautifying Sukuta. Let’s not fall for cheap and petty propaganda,” he added.

Meanehile, Musa Touray who defended him said: “Don’t worry doctor, rise your head above their criticisms. That is idiosyncratic of Gambian politics. Anyone with your right senses would know that was not your utterance knowing your standing. But it’s the playbook of our ill-informed politicians who try to trample on others to advance their malicious agenda.

Siaka Sonko added: “You see this is why politic is not easy to start and end with peace of mind. But you were not mindful of your thought, act and speak. Hypocrite, remove the plank from your own eyes. Even they understand the figure of speech but you have made a mistake by criticizing another leader act. Just be mindful of your thought, act and speak if we need a better world for all…We can do it right rather than pointing at each other. Peace In Peace Out for world sustainable peace.”
