Trade Ministry embarks on Industrial site visit

The Ministry of Trade, Regional Integration and Employment’s Directorate of Industry in collaboration with The Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) has started a nationwide industrial site visit in Banjul.

The Minister and the delegation visited the Gambia Milling Corporation (GMC), Nessim Trading Company Limited, Hansen Seafood Company and Salam Cement Factory.

The objective of the visit accorded the Honorable Minister of Trade to access the established industries within the Greater Banjul Area. In addition, it intends to collect any relevant information about the industry subsector. The tour is also expected to introduce comprehensive monitoring and evaluation tools to be able to gauge the progress of industrial spread and progress in The Gambia.

Speaking at the event, the Honorable Minister of Trade, Seedy Keita reiterated that the objective of the industrial visit is to address the challenges confronting the industries subsector as well see the supply capacity of production in terms of flour, cement and other values derived from the manufacturing.

“As a Ministry, we will work with industries to ensure that the availability of products in terms of flour and cement is realized. We will push the industrialization drive in this country as enshrined in the National Development Plan”, Minister Keita stated.

He pointed out that the technical capacity of the industries visited will boost production, increase the supply in the market as well create employment for young people in the country.

Mr. Christopher Bardy, the Managing Director of the Gambia Milling Corporation pointed out that the milling corporation was founded in 2013 with the sole aim of production and processing of Flour and other derivative products, such as Bran and Animal feed resulting from the milling of wheat and other cereals.

“We are currently working to ensure that we address the potential hitches of the milling, noting that the company has enough wheat in the silos and there is no shortage in the market”, Mr.Bardy stated.
