Dobo Forest Park gets borehole, fence

Fencing and drilling of a borehole has started at the forest park of Dobo village through a support from 4H Gambia, a local NGO funded by European Union EU Global Climate Change Alliance GCCA + Climate Resilient Coastal & Marine Zone project.

The project also known as Restoration of Dobo Forest Park and enhance community participation and recently the Park embarked on National Tree Planting at the park which was graced by Honorable  Minister of Environment Lamin Dibba and officials of Department of Forestry and Great Green Wall.

Speaking at the commenced works in the Dobo Forest Park on Sunday, Chief Alagie Jagne disclosed that the intervention of 4H Gambia is to promote restoration and preservation of forest cover.

Chief Jagne said the fencing, drilling of borehole, the 4 water reservoirs and planting of 30, 000 forest species would help to enhance restoration.

The Chief advised the eight communities to support the contractor to ensure timely execution of project.

Alieu Ceesay National Director of 4H Gambia thanked the construction company for the timely execution of he project and disclosed the company’s commitment in supporting Dobo Forest Park management committee to restore the forest to its glory days.

Ma Sanneh Bah community elder and Samba Leigh of Dobo Forest Park Management disclosed all efforts were taken by the committee to protect the forest from illegal logging and bushfire. The duo said the forest would contribute to mitigate effect of climate change and great sanctuary for wildlife species.

YusuphaTrawally head of community forest patrol team and Momodou Jallow chairman of Dobo Joint Forest Park Management described the intervention as important and call on beneficiaries to build ownership saying there is need for regular consultation
