Top Gambian clerics hail USA for donating Johnson & Johnson vaccines to Gambia

Top Gambian clerics have hailed the United States government for donating the Johnson and Johnson vaccines to The Gambia while they urged the public to go have their coronavirus vaccine to help reduce spread of infection in the country.

The clerics were among a team of people who were at the Banjul International Airport to receive a consignment of the Johnson and Johnson donated by United States of America.

Sheikh Essa Darboe, president of the Supreme Islamic Council said: “Since the emergence of this pandemic, Muslims have been praying to Allah to ease the pandemic.”

“If your prayers are to be answered it doesn’t mean that Allah have to come to you directly and remove the pandemic, but he will bring someone to your aid that will help in easing the (situation) pandemic and among the aid is the arrival of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to prevent us from the pandemic.

“Majority of the people, if not all, agreed to the existence of the pandemic and with believe that these vaccines is what will help to prevent us from the pandemic,” he expressed.

Sheikh Darboe prayed for Allah’s protection over the people and open more doors of assistance for all and again thanked America government for the support.

Meanwhile, Bishop Odiko urged the people to follow “the preventive measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and WHO.”

He disclosed that “people are now taking the pandemic seriously and as they are now coming out in their large numbers to take the vaccine on a daily basis,” while he as well thanked the government of America for the support to make sure that Gambians are protected.
