Murder Case Transfers to High Court

The Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Isatou Janneh Njie has transferred a murder case involved George Mecrumada and Samuel Michel to the High Court for hearing and continuation.

It was recorded that George Mecrumada and Samuel Michel on or about the 17th day of July 2021 at California Bar in Kololi (that they) murdered one Mr Ben Tumbeh alias Ayo.

When the case was called, the prosecutor pleaded for the matter to be transferred to the High Court and the accused persons be remanded pending the hearing of the matter at the High Court, his application was granted by the presiding Magistrate.

“The accused are jointly charged with murder which is a capital offence the punishment is death if found guilty,” the presiding Magistrate stated.

Principal Magistrate Njie made reference to provident in section (5) sub section (1) sub section (a) of the criminal procedure code as well as the establishment of the special criminal division (SCD)by legal notice number 3 of 1997 sub section 2.

Therefore, she states she is minded to grant this application, accordingly, the matter is hereby transfer to the High Court pursuant to Section 62 of the CPC pursuant to section 208A of the criminal procedure court ,the accuse persons will still be remanded in custody pending their arrangement before the High Court.
