Ministry of Health to get oxygen plants amid Covid-19 infections

The Ministry of Health has announced its working plans on how to get the country three generating oxygen plants as coronavirus infections continue to rage.

The oxygen plants will be stationed at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Ndemban Clinic and Bansang General Hospital to help people infected with the coronavirus receive oxygen without hitches. The Gambia is fighting third wave of the coronavirus.

Speaking at a news conference held in Banjul by the Ministry, Honorable Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Lamin Samateh told reporters that: “we are working very hard to have three oxygen generating plants for the country. One to be stationed at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, one at Ndemban in Bakau and the other one will be at Bansang General Hospital.”

He called on the public to continue observing measures like observing physical distancing and wearing of facemasks to help curb further spread of the virus, adding that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect oneself and others around by getting vaccinated.

He thanked health workers for their tireless efforts and dedication in fighting the coronavirus infection in the country.

He appealed to religion, traditional leaders and politicians to help lead the campaign of observing the Covid-19 measures aim at curbing spread of coronavirus to help people who listen to them to emulate their actions in order to free the country of the disease.

“We appeal to Imams, the pastors, the seyfolous [chiefs], the alkalolous [community heads], VDCs [village development committees], politicians, government officials and anyone who has people who listen to him or her to wear the facemasks and practice hand hygiene, maintain social distancing themselves so that people who look up to them will also do so,” Dr Samateh said.

Meanwhile, he added that: “our health system needs a collective effort and mechanism to breach health care needs with service provision to our communities.”
