City Link Ostend-Banjul hands over CPR resuscitators to Banjul Red Cross, as first aid basic training commence

As part of its health care component, City Link Ostend-Banjul Friday, 11th June, 2021 donated 3 CPR resuscitators to Banjul Red Cross Branch and as well commenced weeklong training on First Aid basic training for 75 participants within the city of Banjul at former Crab Island Upper Basic School.

Prior handling over the CPR resuscitators to the Banjul Red Cross members, Omar BS Touray, Deputy Mayor of Banjul, disclosed that the presentation of the items is part of the components of the City Link Ostend-Banjul Project, a project funded by the European Union based on the longstanding link between the cities of Ostend and Banjul.

While commending the efforts of Red Cross Society in the country, he said everyone has recognized the impact of Red Cross Society, in particular, the Banjul branch in this situation of Covid-19 pandemic.

He spoke highly of the partnership of City Link Ostend-Banjul Project saying the council will continue to nurture it.

He therefore urged members of the Red Cross to make good use of the items while he advised the selected 75 participants for the first aid basic training to be attentive and ready to share the knowledge with those that could not participate.

Mr Momodou Jahateh, branch chairman Banjul Red Cross applauded the donor of the CPR resuscitators for the gesture. He said they are latest ones and different from the only one the branch was using during training before the handover of this new ones.

According to him, CPR resuscitator is very important when conducting training on first aid courses “this latest ones donated to us is a scientific machine using when doing chest compression.”

Again, he thanked City Link Banjul Project also known as Future Proof Banjul for the wonderful donation while appreciated the efforts of the Banjul City Council for the continuity of the partnership between the two cities.

Messrs Mam Lai Jassey, Project Coordinator of Future Proof Banjul, Mr Jonas representative of Ostend City Council in The Gambia and Lamin Gassama, First Aid Coordination of The Gambia Red Cross Society all made remarkable remarks on the donation and the training.
