Gambia hosts Poland Economic Forum

The Gambia has hosted first ever Poland Economic Forum which has provided a platform for exchange and business interaction between the Gambia business industries and the Polish companies.

The forum came in the wake of growing interest among Polish and Gambian companies.

The economic forum was held at Sunset hotel, Kotu.

Speaking at the forum, Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs said: “it is another opportunity for The Gambia to strengthen and take the relationship between two countries to another level,”

He thanked the Polish delegations and expressed hope that the forum will engender collaborative successes.

Hussein Diab Ghanem, Consul of Poland in The Gambia said: “the exercise is trying to get collaboration but, in some ways, it will eventually impact the economy of the country.”

He added that Poland has lot to offer and The Gambia itself is transitioning in dispensation of great democracy which is becoming a potential economy hub.

“Gambia still has a lot of untapped opportunities and potentials for growth which can only be brought through collaboration and strategic partnerships. The recent past has taught us the importance of diversification and all-round economic development.

“It is in this spirit that we host this very important forum that will facilitate a natural progression in consummating business communities from both Poland and The Gambia and boost growth in different sectors where possible,” he said.

According to him, Poland has produced one of the highest numbers of software developers in the world, but also boosts a mature manufacturing, agriculture and even aerospace sector.

Meanwhile, Stephane Meerts, Head of Cooperation EU Delegation to The Gambia said: “The economy partnership agreement will help kick start reforms and contribute to great economy governance and boost economy growth in The Gambia.”

“The scale of economy exchange between The Gambia and the EU is certainly below what is forcible this applies to the exports of goods but there is large room for mutual and economy cooperation,” he said.

However, Modou Lamin Sowe Director of GIEPA added that The Gambia needs partnerships with the business partners and they are confidence that from the investment mission they would be able to tie relationships between both countries to ensure that there are smooth business facilitations.

HE Margareta Kassangana Ambassador of Poland in Dakar, Mr Alieu Secka CEO of GCCI also spoke at length at the occasion.
