Accused person guilty of control drugs charge

The Kanifing Magistrate Court has Thursday fine an accused the sum of D100,000 or in default to serve three years imprisonment for been guilty of control drugs.

Momodou Jallow who had pleaded guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Mam Samba Jallow  of the Kanifing Magistrate Court was charged for been in possession of control drugs contrary to section 35(2)(b) of the Drug Control Act.

According to particulars of his offence, Momodou Jallow was on or about the 29th day of November, 2020 at Serrekunda East Football park in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia had in his possession 24g of Cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug without a valid license and thereby committed an offence.

In his plea of mitigation, Momodou Jallow agreed that police found cannabis with him but begged the court to have mercy on him and promised not to do such thing again. He begged the court further to forgive him saying his mother and grandma are old and he is the one helping them “and what happened wasn’t my intention and will not be repeated.”

Delivering her judgment, Magistrate Jallow sentenced the accused person to pay fine of D100,000 in default to go for three years imprisonment.
