Traffic woes in Ramadan, passengers raise concerns

Some hundreds of passengers are complaining about the poor state of traffic within the Greater Banjul Area as, interrupting their daily activities as Ramadan continues.

Njarra Jatta, a passenger said: “traffic congestion often delays my time because I always arrive at working place late. Going back home is the same instead of reaching home at 5:00 pm, I normally arrive past 6:00 pm or 7: pm.”

“The traffic can only be decongested by expanding the roads as well as putting better traffic control mechanisms in place to ease transportation of goods and services in the urban area.”

“President Barrow has told us that the Government has a road construction project that would be implemented later. If that happen the traffic congestion would be minimized,” Mamud Jallow said.

Malang Manneh, 46, said: “in order to decongest the traffic the Government have to provide sufficient parking spaces for private vehicle owners in these two regions during working hours instead of parking them (cars) beside roads.”

“Feeder roads are equally important as the main roads; therefore, the Government should construct the feeder roads within these regions to ease the transportation of goods and services,” he said.

Sanna Camara, a commercial driver said: “the traffic congestion often wastes our (drivers) time as well as the passengers. This is not good for commercial drivers because it wastes our fuel.”

According to him, the frequent traffic congestion is as a result of not enough feeder roads within the Kanifing Municipality.
