The Gambia government has been urged to financially invest in football as well as other sporting activities to help promote and develop sports in the country, as the National Team qualified for the first time to Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking at a banquet organised for the scorpions at Tamala Hotel, Pap Saine, Gambia’s football veteran analyst has called on the government and business community to invest more finance in football in order to help support sports in general in the country.

“Football need resources and we should contribute financially and morally to support the team because without resources we cannot go further and also we need more test matches before January,” he added.

He continued that “it was during this generation in time of President Adama Barrow and the president of the Gambia Football Federation the country achieved the dream to qualify for the first time.”

He noted that The Gambia has participated 14 times but failed and also got suspended in 1988 when the team was desponded after Guinea Bissau Zone two.

“In 2014 we were also suspended because we pay duty, we learn a lot from our mistake and we had financial and technical constraints but thanks to God now we qualify for the first time, the time of President Kabba Bajo. And from 1998 to 2004 he served as the president of he Gambia sports journalists and also served as a member of the press committee of the Confederation of African Football from 1988 to 2002, I think I have been into football all my life,” he said.

He commended the players, coach for the job well done and urged them to be more committed.
