The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has challenged the government to tell people of The Gambia the reason for giving three weeks’ notice to the public before declaring a lockdown (restrictions).

Honorable Mamma Kandeh made these remarks on Saturday at the GDC second congress held in Farafenni, North Bank.

Speaking at the congress, Honorable Kandeh said the government should give out reasons why they give the public three weeks before the commencement of the restriction announced sometimes back. “If the virus is really serious and killing people on daily basis, then why should they give the three weeks in advance before the start of lockdown (restrictions)?”

He argued that if Covid-19 is serious in the country as said by the government the president should have pronounced a lockdown without giving three weeks before the actual date, so it can be informed of emergency. “Emergency should not be delayed because is something that is going to affect your life and the lives of the people so it doesn’t worth a delay,” he added.

“President Barrow should rethink about his decision, they should stop writing after hearing or read every comment on the social media because their (government) words are powerful and they should not joke with it.”
