‘That’s an Insult’: Baba Saho – Ex-NIA Official Tells TRRC Lead Counsel

By Adama Makasuba

In a strong voice, an irked TRRC Witness admonished the Lead Counsel saying “That’s an insult Mr Chairman,” as he sought the intervention of the commission chairman Dr Lamin Sise to ask the top lawyer to withdraw his descriptive statement on him.

Mr Saho appeared second most adversely mentioned by witnesses of tortured at the National Intelligent Agency, which had prompted him been served with a notice of adversity by Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission to appear and respond to the allegations made against him.

“You tortured a whole lot of people – you tortured Njundu Jawara, Lamin Kanaji, Alhagie Morikebba Saidykhan, Lang Hawa Sonko, Foday Ceesay, Sheriff Beyai and Omar Bah. That’s what you people do? You are torturers. And that is why you are the most notorious at the NIA. You feel that was popularity? It was notoriety!” TRRC lead counsel Essa Faal told Saho.

The displeased former state spy agent replied: “that’s an insult Mr Chairman that’s an insult,”, but the commission’s top lawyer fired back saying: “I am characterising the evidence.”

“No, you characterised us…you said that’s why you are notorious. Mr Chairman I don’t expect that word from him (EssaFaal – that) we are so notorious definitely,” Mr Saho replied.
