GAP Speaks On Mass Deportation of Gambians

By Binta Jaiteh

Gambia Action Party has raised concern over mass deportation of Gambians living abroad while urging the Barrow-led government to immediately address the issue.

The party’s spokesman Sheikh Faal said: “seems President Barrow is careless about what is happening to our beloved brothers and sisters in the diaspora even if some of them are convicted of criminal offences, they deserve due process.”

“Since Gambians has decided to change Government, Barrow should record history to make sure that Gambians enjoy freedom to the fullest even if is not eradicated but 90% should be solved. The issue of deportation of Gambians is becoming a tradition and the Government should wake up and save the diaspora since majority are the breadwinners of their family,” he added.

He accused the government of not considering the outcome of arrival of those deportees adding that what impact it will have on them and their families and the whole country at large.

“Crime rate will increase, some will be insane notwithstanding just recently someone murdered his own father and a lot is happening whether you know it or not,  those people deported what will happen to them, since the ones here are unemployed and now adding another load. I believe there should be no room for such act particularly a President,” he disclosed.

He said President Barrow has betrayed Gambians but quickly urged him to immediately take a new step in governing the country.

“I think he should try and obey the rules as the commission waiting for the victims is better to act smart now before it gets late,” Mr Faal said.
