National Assembly Writes GTBoard Over Staff Petition

Impeccable sources closed to Gambia’s National Assembly has disclosed to this medium that the National Assembly’s Petition Committee has written to the Board of Directors of the Gambia Tourism Board over a petition filed by concern staff of the institute in September, 2020.

Last week, an anonymous petitioner raised concern over the lacklustre attitude of the National Assembly to investigate corrupt allegations leveled against the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Honorable Hamat N.K Bah and other Senior Management Staff of the Gambia Tourism Board.

Minister Bah, Abdoulie Hydara, former Director of Gambia Tourism Board, Madam Kordu Jabang Senghore, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Ousainou Senghore former Finance Director of Gambia Tourism Board were accused of financial misappropriation and mismanagement relative to awarding of landed properties at the tourism development area, clandestine leasing of Lands, fraudulent awarding of contract to Lerr Construction Company for building of Eco-Lodges across rural Gambia.

“The Petition Committee sat on Wednesday to draw an action plan on how to address the petitions on our table and part of this work is to write to the various institutions those matters are before us,” said Honorable Sunkary Badgie, Chairman NA Petition Committee.

According to him, any petition that goes to the National Assembly must past through the Clerk of the National Assembly to vet whether such a petition meets the set criteria as in accordance with the standing orders of the Assembly.

He disclosed that the Petition Committee of the National Assembly is currently dealing with three petitions that has fulfilled all the requirements for review and investigation, adding that the petition tendered by concern staff of the Gambia Tourism Board is among the trio that are to be reviewed and investigated. ”

So far we have received three petitions that have passed admission and already our plans are to look into these petitions in the coming weeks. These petitions included that of the GTBoard, the issues of Gambians stranded in Morocco including one from Wuli that harps on Police Inability to curb activities of Cattle rustlers,”

Honorable Badgie disclosed to The Voice Newspaper and added: “At the moment we are dealing with this three petitions. We have already put up plans and strategies to deal with them.”
