DLEA urges public to share information on drug related issues

Drug Law Enforcement Agency has called on the public to help support law enforcers by sharing information on dubious activities like drug and its related problems with the agency.

The agency’s call comes after it seized over two tons of cocaine at the Gambia Port worth over D4.5 billion. The discovery and seizure sparked public concern as it is described as the biggest ever seized drugs in the history of the country.

DLEA spokesman Ousman Saidybah said: “Our collective safety is the responsibility of everybody. If you see something, you say something because Law enforcement cannot be everywhere and at every time. So, we try to have people across but what we have always been calling on is public support and sharing of information especially on suspicious activities to law enforcement.”

He added: “But even the countries that have all these they still reply on human intelligence and this is where everybody has to know and understand.”

Meanwhile, he continued: “The principal person in this matter is on the run. A manhunt has been launched working in tandem with our partners and also putting in place other mechanism that as at this stage may not be said in public. The Institution together with partners is doing everything possible and any other person who is of interest or subject of interest in this matter is brought to book.”

The officials said all the four containers were shipped by ECU WORLDWIDE ECUADOR SA and consigned to BOLLORE TRANSPORT and LOGISTICS as their local partner.
