Residents of Laterikunda Nema in the Kanifing Municipality have called on The Gambia Police Forces (GPF) to construct a police post at the car park to ensure smooth and save traffic.

Many commercial and private cars often travel through this car park, resulting to numerous fatal accidents owing to lack of control.

Speaking to The Voice exclusively, Mariama Sarr, resident said: “The Gambia Police Force should definitely establish a police post in the car park. Because the car park is on the highway and some of the drivers drive recklessly taking advantage of the free traffic without the presence of any police officer.”

She explained that some months ago a truck drivers seriously knock a student to death but there was no police officers to handle the cases in spot.

“The incident was later resolve when the family of the decease reported the matter to a police station,” she said.

“If a traffic officer was on the road the accident would have not happen.”

Ebou Mbaye, resident of Nema said there is a need for The Gambia Police Forces to initiate a police post in the car park in order to minimize accidents.

“The location is not suitable because most of the cars use that road as their short cut to Wellingara and Taboko. So if the road is not under control drivers would do anything they want to do and that would risk many lives,” he said.

Mariama Bah, vendor said the car park is not control at all. She called on the police to urgent provide a police post so as to control the car park and surroundings.

“This garage is tight and the drivers often drive roughly. We urge GPF to take action and solve this issue as soon as possible”, she appealed.
