Changai Toro Cattle Farmers Decry over Water Constrain for their Livestock

Cattle farmers of Changai Toro village in the Sami District, Central River Region north (CRR/n) have bitterly complained over lack of sufficient and decent water supply for their livestock.

Changai a predominant livestock rearing community of over two hundred cattle and numerous sheep and goats uses pulley to fetch water from local wells for the livestock on daily basis.

Speaking to this medium on Saturday, Amadou Gissay alias Amu said the main constraints of the cattle farmers in the village are lack of proper water source, adding “we have to use oxen, and donkeys to fetch water to ensure the livestock drink on daily basis. This is too hard.”

This community have three local well of fifty-five (55) meters dept each, making livestock farmers finding it difficult to fetch water.

Gissay said: “We find it very difficult to fetch water with our animal daily. There is a need for government to help us.”

Abou Waan, also a cattle owner said: “We cannot enjoy here due to the lack of good water source for our livestock. Every day, we have to go to the well in a shiny sun to fetch water for the livestock.”

He called on the government to provide water-borne pipe for the village that is specifically made for the livestock to drink, saying if government do that the livestock farmers would find easier to rear more livestock.

“We have sufficient clean drinking water but we are not comfortable because we have to struggle on daily basis to ensure our livestock drink,” he sorrowfully complained to this medium.

Omar Jobe, also a resident said the government should provide a water project for the livestock, justifying that the domestic animal is very instrumental in society as they are slaughtered in many social activities such as naming, wedding, and other religious ceremonies.

However, they all called on government to provide sufficient water supply as well as good medication for the livestock in order to maintain their good health.
