Gambian women entrepreneurs celebrate AWEP’s 10 years anniversary

The Gambian entrepreneurs have joined their African counterparts to celebrate 10 years African Women Entrepreneur Program (AWEP), held at GCCI conference hall.

The event showed the presence of AWEP Chapter President in The Gambia, Amie Jaiteh Ceesay and Minister of Women and Children Affair, Honorable Fatou Kinteh.

This year 40 countries representing 5000 women all over the world, and the Gambia is not an exception, to celebrate the 10 years anniversary of AWEP through a virtual event from members affiliated countries.

Madam Amie Jaiteh Ceesay expressed total appreciation to be part of this event which is an achievement for the organization and commended and expressed gratitude to the Hon. Minister of Women and Children and the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Trade for gracing this occasion.

She said their presents in this occasion was a proud to her as the AWEP chapter president and this has shown the importance they attached to this event.

The AWEP Chapter President went on that the African Women Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) was launched in 2010 by the State Department of the US Government.

She cited that AWEP is an outreach, education, and engagement initiative design to introduce Sub-Saharan businesswomen to American approaches to leadership, business growth, forging networks and thus becoming voices of change.

According to her, since formation of AWEP, it has conducted several activities that are aimed at benefiting the African women entrepreneurs, amongst which are, training on setting up and managing businesses, marketing and financial management, information access for intellectual property rights, grants, financial, markets and networking and local and international workshops for capacity building of members and on various topics.

She disclosed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, AWEP has also stepped up to offer its member a variety of information sessions to help their business survive and transform to the changing times.

“Amongst these are, we have offered webinars and information sessions on how to access N50billion CBN COVID-19 funds, how to save your business from COVID-19, how to position your business for online success during the lockdown and beyond, how to complete verification on Google my Business, amongst others,” she outlined.

She advised Women Entrepreneurs to double their commitment and dedication toward their businesses and ensure to work toward engaging in meaningful business development.
