NYC Boss tasks government to invest in youth

The newly nominated chairperson for the National Youth Council (NYC) has tasked President Barrow-led government to invest on youth to enable them excels in the country.

Ousman Fatty was speaking to stakeholders during the launching of Youth Toll Free Line Searching for Opportunities at NYC secretariat, he said: “Youth formed sixty-five per cent (65%) of the country’s (population) as a result, I think more resources need to be allocated to the youth.”

He said Gambian young people got talents and they are doing extremely well anywhere they are found across the world.

However, the professional accountant said: “So, all what they (youth) lack is resources. We are appealing to government to increase the allocation So that youth of this country can harness their potential.”

Fatty said Gambian youth are excelling in all type of skills and vocational but added that youth of this West African tiny nation need sufficient resources to ensure they attain the sustainable development goals.

“I was shocked when I see what is allocated to the Ministry of Youth and Sport in the budget,” he lamented.

In this regard, he opined that there is a need for government to give better allocation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports so that the young people would accomplish their goals in the country.
