According to a source, the school lacks a library, sufficient structures, power supply, insufficient staff quarters as well as insufficient textbooks to ensure effective teaching and learning in school.

“The Senior School is occupying the Upper Basic School’s structures causing inadequate space,” the source revealed.

Speaking further, the source said the school lacks power supply such as solar panel or other means of electricity, adding that anytime the school wants to print or photocopy document someone have to travel to Bansang or Janjanbureh to get the services done. “This usually wastes the school’s time and resources.”

 On Teacher’s Quarters

The source said the school does not have enough staff quarters to accommodate the entire staff, noting that “Some teachers are staying in the surrounding villages and travel to the school.”

 Laboratory

The source said Karantaba Senior School also lacks a science laboratory for the students to do their practical.

“Science teachers only teach the theory aspect without conducting practical. In normal circumstances the students should be taught both theory and practical to ensure better understanding,” the source lamented.

Speaking further, the source from CRR revealed that the blackboards of the school are in poor condition, the senior school lacks both staff room and assembly hall. This, he said, is drastically affecting all and sundry in the school.

“The School lacks proper fence and enough textbooks,” source added.

Karantaba Senior School is situated approximately 350 KM away from Banjul City, it was established in 2013.

Many students want to attend science subjects such as chemistry,  physic among others in order to become nurses, medical doctors, engineers, electricians among other science related courses.

However, the source said the school does not have a science stream where students can offer chemistry and physic, stating that lacks of science laboratory is the main factor for the lack of science stream in the educational institution.
