Foni Kansala MP demands a detail clarification on land misconduct

Musa Amul Nassyi, National Assembly for Foni Kansala and the Chairman of House Committee on regional government and land, ombudsman and IEC has demanded a detail clarification from the two stakeholders on how far they have gone with land dispute.

On Monday, National Assembly select committee on regional government and land, ombudsman and IEC engaged both the ministry of land and land commission on land misconduct aimed at enlightening lawmakers.

Buba Sanyang, Permanent Secretary Ministry of land and local government told lawmakers that allocation of land to the National Library was made on a request that current location of National Library

He disclosed that the ministry allocated land National Library in the Kanifing institutional layout and since allocation the ministry had not received any complaints from management of National Library

Speaking on Salagi layout, Sanyang disclosed that Salagi is a government set-out layout set-up for compensation.

He said what promoted the last commotion was a result of the ministry conducting a demolition exercise.

“This demolition exercise was as a result of the government unable to access educational facilities within the layout for a contractor who had been given a contract for more than one year and has also received advance paid by from government,” he said.

He pointed out that once the educational facility is identified within the layout and the contractor is engage to build the school, “I think we need to facilitate that.”

He also said the ministry embarks on the demolition for the contractor to build the school, clear some of the public spaces and also for some people that had been allocated within the layout by the government.

“We have to except the fact during the allocation the government allocated to individual base on their application to the ministry” he added.

On Yundum layout, he said the area was owned by one Mr. Njang who he said was at the time a Commissioner at West Coast Region   and acquires the land from the local people.

He added that after the change of government in 1994, the commission that was set felt that they abuse their office to get this land and the land was taken from them, and given back to the state and the state hand over the land to the Assert Management Recovery Committee (AMRC) been the recovery body of the government.

He further said the land was later bought by Mr. Gaye from the AMRC with his entire document. Along the road AMRC got interested on this land due to its appreciative value.

According to him, the land was taken from Mr. Gaye but after the change of government Mr. Gaye come back and take the matter to court to challenge that task force decision and court return the land back to Mr. Gaye.

However, Justice Raymoney C. Sock chairperson of the Land Commission said the dispute of the said land mention has not been brought to their attention including Brufut land dispute.
