Commercial drivers call on gov’t to address bad conditions of roads

Commercial drivers within the Greater Banjul Area have called on government to help address bad conditions of the roads which are causing damage to their vehicles.

Speaking to The Voice is Saikou Njie, a driver said “the poor road network normally affects our vehicles and it also makes driving difficult for us. we used the footpad at times due to the poor road network because it has affected lot of vehicle even me I recently spent D4, 000 to repaired my vehicle.”

He said government should consider good contractors when awarding road contracts to.

The driver also urged the government to consider road expansion to make the traffic free and suitable for both drivers and non-drivers.

Another driver, Ebrima Camara said: “the poor road network makes the traffic worst, you will work up to midday even to have D1500 is difficult because the roads are not good.”

“But patching the road with stones to maintain has no use because at the end those stone will come out and it also makes the road rough. So it is better to put gravel to make the road smooth,” he added.

However, Sheik Cham and Abdoulie cham both share similar view and urged government to provide good road networks and garage.
