Minister Cole assured Free, Fair, Transparent WASSCE in Gambia

As the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is in progress through-out The Gambia, the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education assured students and parents that the grounds are set for fair, free and transparent conduct of the exams throughout the country.

Minister Claudiana Ayo Cole y gave this assurance during One and One chat with the Information Officer under her ministry. Minister Cole indicated that the GABECE was conducted freely, fairly and transparent manner without malpractices of any kind throughout the Gambia and the same would be done for WASSCE.

It would be recalled that the grade 9 students sat to the GABECE some weeks ago without report of a single malpractices or cheating, and the same thing if not better will occur during this ongoing WASSCE in the country,” basic education minister explained.

As you know, since the outbreak of the reported cases of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country in March 2020, the officials at MoBSE conducted series of meetings with their stakeholders to conduct online classes for students of all grades so that grades 9 and 12 students can sit to their examinations in order to pave the way for other grades to move to their new grades.

“Examinations malpractice can only occur in schools when students are not sure of themselves of whether they will perform well or not. We know that our students (in grades 9 and 12) are in the right track. They will not involve themselves into examinations malpractices because they are ready for their examinations,” she assured.

According to basic education minister, her ministry noticed from both the grades 9 and 12 students that they are not lazy to attend to their classes during this Covid-9 crisis, the zeal and the desire is in them to make sure they came out with flying colors without any examinations malpractices or cheating.

Minister Cole on Monday also visited some senior secondary schools in Region 2 to see how they are gearing-up for the WASSCE.
