German-based School Gives Food aid to 95 families in Gambia

German-based School has donated food aid to 95 families in different regions in the country.

The distributed food items included 95 bags rice of 25 kilos, 95 gallons of 5 litres vegetable oil to 95 to families across the country.

School for the Gambia Bisingen e. V in Germany aimed to support vulnerable families to overcome the impact of coronavirus cases.

Among other beneficiaries were Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya, Farafenni and Fankoi in Lower River Region.

Morro Jagne, National Coordinator for the School for Gambia Busingen e. V in Germany, described food assistance as timely and supportive.

He said: “Over D200,000 was provided by the donor to complement government efforts to help families to promote compliance by WHO and Ministry of Health to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic”

He noted that the School also carried out rehabilitation of three classrooms, toilets and Kitchen for Kinteh LBS at Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya Lower Basic School. Among other activities undertaken is that they also fenced and drilled borehole at Fankoi Lower Basic School to help secured from stray animals and make water available for the students.

Awa Hydara said the Covid-19 has contributed to food insecurity, the closure of schools and no school feeding program has prompted families to increase food ration and this has economic challenges.

Marang Kinteh, lady councillor for Lower Badibou and educationist said the intervention of School for Gambia at Kinteh Kunda LBS has increased enrolment, retentions and by extension enhance performance of students.

He said the School has also supported 50 students in Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya and 40 students and each received cash support of D3000 from grade 1 to grade 6.
