Scores of Gambians have intensified call on government of The Gambia as they want government of Senegal to immediately return back the diamond confiscated from Morry Gassama, which worth D20 million.

Mr Gassama has claimed that his diamonds were illegally taken away from him at the Senegalese airport while he was on a trip from Congo in 2006. Despite engaging the Gambia government on the issue since the regime of former president Yahya AJJ Jammeh and present government of His Excellence Adama Barrow, he said all his efforts to get back the confiscated diamonds still remain futile.

Tens of hundred Gambians are now taking part in the campaign calls by mounting pressure on President Adama Barrow to engage its Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall, over the issue to pay back Morry Gassama’s diamonds with apology.

Gambian student at Linkipon University, Sweden, Musa Baldeh told The Voice that “If Senegalese government fail to do so (return the diamonds), Gambia government should file a case against them (Senegal government) at the Ecowas Court in Abuja, Nigeria.”

He called on President Barrow’s government to put pressure on Macky Sall’s government to return the diamonds to Mr Gassama.

Among others, Kebba Ansu Manneh, journalist urged Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant authorities to do necessary possible things to help recover the diamonds for Mr Gassama.  “It will be good if government can aid Mr Gassama to get his confiscated diamonds. Our authorities should not let this matter go in vain they should fight over this matter,” Manneh said.

He however called on fellow Gambians to help in ensuring that Mr Gassama is paid back his diamonds. He expressed disappointment in the Senegalese government, saying many Gambians have been detained in the Senegalese prisons over the years.

Another journalist, Abubacarr Saidykhan, made same submission by calling MoFA to go by it diplomatically and work with Senegalese embassy in the country to ensure Gassama recovers his property.

However, former President Yahya Jammeh once complained of the matter to President MackySall on a televised broadcast on GRTS.
